Welcome to Hummingbird Storytelling!

Greetings to all of you who like to let your imagination fly with the magic of stories. I have been writing and telling stories for over ten years and my stories have been peformed in museums, conference halls, theatres and storytelling clubs in Britain, Spain, Malta and Peru.

Why Hummingbird Storytelling? Well, my love of stories began in Ecuador, a beautiful country full of magical mountains, ancient indigenous cultures and of course, hummingbirds, which represent among other things, the fire in our hearts and the courage to live fully.

And what better place to start than with a hummingbird story from Ecuador?

The Hummingbird Story

Once upon time there was a deep green forest where all the plants and the birds and and animals lived in harmony, except when one animal ate another as sometimes can happen in the deep green forest....

Until one day there was a terrible fire that set alight the whole of the forest, and all the birds and animals took flight, trying to save themselves from the inferno.

They crossed a river and from the safety of the other side watched helplessly as their beloved deep green forest burned down. Their faces were full of sadness and despair.

Except for one little hummingbird. She flitted to the surface of the river and took a tiny beakful of water, and flew to the edge of the fire and sprinkled on a few tiny drops. She kept on, sprinkling beakful after tiny beakful onto the huge endless fire.

The other animals looked at her with astonishment. "What do you think you are doing? Do you think your little drops of water are going to put out this huge fire?"

The hummingbird stopped for a moment and looked at them, then she said, "I am doing what I can."
